About
Dr. Amber-Lea Martinez is a Licensed Professional Counselor – Associate supervised by Dee Ray, PhD, LPC-S, NCC, RPT-S. Dr. Martinez holds a doctoral degree in Counselor Education and Supervision and a masters degree in Counseling, both from the University of North Texas. As a counselor educator, Dr. Martinez emphasizes a collaborative and holistic approach to learning, honoring the active role that each student takes in their own learning. Clinically, Dr. Martinez currently works at a private practice in Highland Village and has experience working in a variety of settings, including community mental health agencies, hospitals, schools, and juvenile detention facilities. Dr. Martinez's clinical and research interests include play therapy, expressive arts, interpersonal trauma, attachment, and parenting. Dr. Martinez specializes in play therapy with foster and adoptive families and currently volunteers for A Home Within, a national non-profit organization that provides free counseling services to individuals who have experienced time in the foster care system.
